The venue
Bowling, Darts, Pool and Arcade
A bowling game runs about an hour. A party runs longer, and the gap is where most venues lose a group. Ours opens straight onto the rest of the floor, so nobody has to leave the room, or your eyeline.
Bowling
Six ten pin lanes on the Qubica AMF Neoverse system, with booth seating that keeps the group together. Bumpers go up per player rather than per lane, so a five year old and a grandparent can bowl the same game.
Darts
Boards on the same floor as the lanes, so the group has somewhere to move on to when the bowling finishes without the party breaking up or leaving your eyeline.
Pool tables
Tables a few steps from the lanes, giving the older kids and the adults something to do while the food comes out and the next game is set up.
Arcade games
The arcade sits right off the bowling floor, and arcade tickets are already loaded on every package from Bronze up. There is a prize wall to cash them in on the way out.
And a full hotel kitchen and bar behind all of it, so the adults are properly looked after too.

Adult Parties and Work Functions
Not every party has a jumping castle attached. The Adult Silver and Gold packages above run 18ths and 21sts, engagement parties, team nights and end of year functions on the same lanes, with the bar and the kitchen of a full hotel behind them. Friday and Saturday we are open until midnight.
Bowling does something a sit down dinner cannot: it gives people who do not know each other a reason to talk. That is the whole trick with a work function.
If you want something larger or more formal, the Calamvale Hotel has function spaces beyond the bowling floor. Tell us the headcount in the form and we will come back with the right room.

Things You Should Know Before You Book
Three. That is the real minimum, not a starting point we talk you up from. Most of the large entertainment chains will not take a party under ten guests, so if you have a small group this is usually the difference between having the party out and having it at home.
At least 48 hours before the date. That is the minimum for us to hold the lane, set the table and roster a host. In practice, weekends and school holidays go early, so if you have a date in mind it is worth sending the form well before that.
Yes. ThunderBowl sits inside the Calamvale Hotel, which is a licensed premises, so every guest under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the whole visit. It is a legal requirement and we cannot make exceptions to it.
Most parents end up counting this as a plus rather than a catch. There is a full bar and a proper kitchen a few metres from the lane, so the adults doing the supervising get a decent meal and a drink instead of standing in a corner holding coats.
Yes, bring the cake. It is the one thing we would never ask you to outsource. Mention it in your enquiry and the team will have plates and a knife ready at the table so you are not hunting for them mid party.
Tell us in the enquiry form and again when you confirm final numbers. The platters are set menus, but there is a full hotel kitchen behind them, so swaps can usually be arranged if we know in advance. Please do not leave it until the day, because that is when we have the least room to move.
Everything listed on the package is included in the per guest price: the bowling, the platter, the drink, the arcade tickets, the host and the table decorations. There is no separate lane hire, shoe fee or host fee stacked on top.
What is not included is anything extra you choose on the day, such as drinks from the bar for the adults or additional arcade credit once the loaded tickets run out.
Yes. Corporate nights, team building, engagements, hens and bucks and Christmas functions all run here, and the venue is open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. For groups too large for the bowling floor alone, the Calamvale Hotel has additional function spaces. Put your headcount in the form and the functions team will come back with the right space.
678 Compton Road, Calamvale QLD 4116, inside the Calamvale Hotel on Brisbane’s southside. It is a suburban hotel site rather than a shopping centre, so you are not fighting for a park or paying for one.
